Facebook finally puts its privacy policy in plain English

Facebook2

Facebook updated its privacy policies on Thursday, but the real change came in the form of the site using basic language so people can better understand how everything works

The company has introduced a page called Privacy Basics, which walks users through how to manage settings, from photo tags to what others can see about you — and not just friends but advertisers too.

The page is colorful and uses easy-to-decipher verbiage ("how can I stop someone who's bothering me?"), instead of weeding through buried tools to get what you're really looking for. The page is available in 36 languages Read more...

Church turns to Facebook to find mourners for ex-serviceman's funeral

Serviceman

LONDON — A church in Wales has launched an appeal on Facebook to find mourners to attend the funeral of an 85-year-old veteran who has no family or friends remaining

Harold Morgan, who had been living in a care home in Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan for the past 14 years, had served in the Welsh Guards and was posted to Egypt during that time

"We were given no next of kin details, which was very unusual," Reverend Rachel Simpson told BBC Radio 4's Today programme

"I was worried that there would only be the solicitor and the nurses from the nursing home at the service and I thought that's not a very nice way to go." Read more...

14 photos of beautifully intersecting paths

Street_cross

Last week, we asked you to find and photograph intersecting lines and shapes. The submissions we reviewed showed busy city streets, quiet neighborhood roads, mountains, plains and more abstract paths.

Architectural photographer Peter Molick was our guest host for the challenge.

Molick practices a unique type of photography: aerial drone imaging. He uses drone cameras to capture busy intersections in his hometown of Houston. You can search #HoustonCrossings on Instagram to see his shots.

"I loved watching all of the entries roll in," he said. "There was such a great variety that captured the week's theme from all over the globe." Read more...

Instagram finally lets you edit photo captions

Instagram-7

You can finally go back fix and all the typos in your Instagram captions.

The company rolled out an update Monday that adds the ability to change photo captions after they're posted and adds new recommendations to the app's Explore menu

In what had long been frustrating for victims of autocorrect everywhere, the app didn't allow users to tweak captions after a photo or video posted, forcing users to post corrections as a comment or delete and re-upload the post entirely.

"This has been one of the top requests that we’ve heard from the community, and we’re excited to finally bring it to you today," Instagram wrote in a blog post Read more...
