It seems like only yesterday that we were posting about a new looping video app that dropped in the App Store


Now, almost three hundred videos, millions of loops and one Shorty Award later, Mashable's main account on Vine has hit 100,000 followers, and we couldn't be more grateful for each and every one of you

Like Its Peers, Pinterest Releases Mostly Male Employee Demographics

Silicon Valley's most promising tech companies are proving what everyone already suspected — that tech has a diversity problem


Pinterest is the latest tech company to unveil its employee demographics, which look similar to other companies in the area: mostly white, mostly male.



Pinterest reports that 92% of its workforce is either white or Asian, a ratio similar to other social companies like Twitter (88%) and Google (91%)


Perhaps more indicative of Silicon Valley's diversity problem: 79% of Pinterest tech jobs, and 81% of its leadership positions are filled by men Read more...

New App or New Ad? Instagram Teases Us With Bolt

What exactly does Facebook have up its sleeve?


An ad for a new app called Bolt mysteriously appeared on Instagram on Wednesday. Android users reported seeing a new banner-style app-install ad on on the service, according to TechCrunch , which featured a "one tap photo messaging" app called Bolt.



The ad included what appeared to be an install button similar to the app-install ads from your Facebook News Feed


The button was a dead link, however, and the ads were removed shortly after they appeared, according to The Verge . "We don’t have anything to share right now," an Instagram spokesperson told Mashable. Read more...

As tensions, and the death toll, continue to rise and Israeli forces move further into Gaza, two students at Hunter College in New York have found a way to spread love at a time when it's so easy to hate.


Abraham Gutman and Dania Darwish created a Twitter hashtag campaign, #JewsandArabsRefuseToBeEnemies, and Facebook page after Israeli military forces launched Operation Protective Edge and advanced into Gaza on July 8 — an offensive that has led to the death of more than 680 Palestinians, according to an AP report. The same report put the Israeli death toll since the start of hostilities at 31. Read more...

Twitter Is Mostly a White Male Company, Diversity Data Reveals

It took a few weeks, but Twitter has finally released diversity data on its company, joining the likes of LinkedIn, Facebook and Google. The results? Twitter's roughly 3,000 employees are predominately white (59%) and overwhelmingly male (70%).


The company's gender gap, in particular, becomes even more pronounced when broken down by expertise. Of Twitter's technology employees, a whopping 90% are men. For non-technical jobs, the split between genders is 50-50. What's more, almost 80% of those in leadership positions are men (and 72% are white).

The social giant reported record totals for revenue, profits and user figures across the board on Wednesday, beating Wall Street estimates on a day when company stock rose nearly 3%



The new numbers show that despite more than 1.3 billion users, Facebook is still growing at a steady rate. The company added more than 40 million monthly active users in Q2, and mobile monthly actives increased more than 30% over the past year
